In April 1991, the Professional Standards committee had proposing 31 multicultural counseling competencies and it was approved by the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD). This committee also was strongly encouraged the American Counseling Association and the counseling profession to adopt these competencies in accreditation criteria with the hope to become a standard for curriculum reform and training of helping professionals.
Here a some differentiation about cross cultural competencies, which are Counselor Awareness of Own Cultural Values and Biases, Counselor Awareness of Client’s Worldview, and Culturally Appropriate Intervention Strategies that include their objective according to Attitudes and Beliefs, Knowledge, and Skills.
