Introduction

السلام عليكم  and Hi Readers!

Welcome to Culture Heritage Diaries again. We are so glad to know you are still interested to read our entry.

Today, we want to share with you about "What is cross-cultural?"

What is Cross-Cultural?

Based on OnlinePsychology Degree Guide (as cited by GetCeusnow), it stated that culture is the “shared values, traditions, norms, arts, history, folklore and institutions of a group of people.” Meanwhile, Meriam Webster defined cross-cultural as dealing with or offering comparison between two or more different cultures or cultural areas.

Therefore, this course of Cross-cultural Counseling (EDG 4008) emphasize on the importance of understanding cultural and ethnic attributes as these attributes may affect the counseling relationship between counselors and clients. These are include the gender roles, ethnicity, subcultures, urban and rural societies, cultural mores, religions and beliefs, as well as differing family life patterns or even lifestyle.

Thus, by having a good understanding of our own cultural values and different cultural values of other countries may eventually help us to avoid biases and prejudices, and to protect the sensitivity.
